Common problems encountered during the use of slurry pumps

2022-06-22

As the saying goes, "adapt the menu to the person"; no matter what you do, you must first understand the cause before you can prescribe the right medicine. Take the use of slurry pumps as an example. Various problems often occur during use. Different problems need to be solved in combination with the actual situation. So what problems will slurry pumps encounter during use? Next, we will summarize several common problems encountered during the use of slurry pumps and their solutions.

(1) Insufficient flow rate

Cause: The main reasons for insufficient flow rate of the slurry pump are air leakage in the suction pipe and bottom valve; blockage of the inlet; insufficient water depth of the bottom valve; too low slurry pump speed; excessive wear of the sealing ring or impeller; exceeding the suction height, etc. Solution: Check the suction pipe and bottom valve, and block the air leakage source; clean the silt or blockage at the inlet; the bottom valve water depth must be more than 1.5 times the diameter of the inlet pipe, and the bottom valve water depth should be increased; check the power voltage, increase the slurry pump speed, and replace the sealing ring or impeller; replace or lower the installation position of the slurry pump.

(2) Excessive power consumption

Cause: The slurry pump speed is too high; the slurry pump shaft is bent, or the slurry pump shaft and the motor shaft are not concentric or parallel; improper slurry pump head; slurry pump suction or blockage; damage to the motor ball bearings, etc. Solution: Check the loop voltage and reduce the slurry pump speed; correct the slurry pump shaft or adjust the relative position of the slurry pump and motor; select a slurry pump with the appropriate head; clean the sediment or blockage; replace the motor ball bearings.

(3) Severe vibration or noise of the pump body

Cause: The slurry pump is not firmly installed or the slurry pump is installed too high; the motor ball bearings are damaged; the slurry pump shaft is bent or not concentric or parallel with the motor shaft. Solution: Install the slurry pump stably or lower the installation height of the slurry pump; replace the motor ball bearings; correct the bending of the slurry pump shaft or adjust the relative position between the slurry pump and the motor.

(4) Overheating of the drive shaft or motor bearing

Cause: Lack of lubricating oil in the equipment components, or breakage of internal bearings. Solution: Add lubricating oil or replace the bearings.

(5) The slurry pump does not drain

Cause: The pump body and suction pipe are not filled with water; the dynamic water level is lower than the slurry pump filter pipe; the suction pipe is broken, etc. Solution: Eliminate bottom valve failure and replenish water; lower the installation position of the slurry pump so that the filter pipe is lower than the dynamic water level, or wait for the dynamic water level to rise, and then pump water from the filter pipe; repair or replace the suction pipe.

Different types of slurry pumps have different failure modes, but in general, they have the above characteristics. If you need to learn more about the selection or maintenance of construction equipment, you can consult at any time.
