Introducing the working principle and advantages of axial flow pumps
Working principle of axial flow pumps
Axial flow pumps do not rely on the centrifugal force of the impeller to transport liquid; instead, they use the thrust of the rotating impeller blades to make the transported liquid flow along the pump axis. When the pump shaft is driven by a motor to rotate, due to the certain helical angle between the blades and the axis of the pump shaft, the liquid is pushed out (or lifted). The liquid is pushed out and discharged along the discharge pipe. This is similar to the operation of an electric fan, because the air near the front of the fan blades is pushed forward by the blades, causing the air to flow. When the liquid is pushed out, a local vacuum is formed at the original position, and the external liquid is sucked into the impeller under the action of atmospheric pressure along the intake pipe. As long as the impeller keeps rotating, the pump can continuously suck and discharge liquid.
Advantages of axial flow pumps
1. Large flow rate, simple structure, light weight, small size, tubular shape, so small footprint.
2. When the vertical axial flow pump is working, the impeller is completely immersed in water, and no pumping is required during startup, making operation simple and convenient.
3. For adjustable axial flow pumps, when the operating conditions change, as long as the blade angle is changed, they can still work with good efficiency.
The main disadvantage of axial flow pumps is that the head is too low, and the application range is limited.
Axial flow pumps are low-head, high-flow pumps, so they are usually used for large-scale agricultural irrigation and drainage, urban drainage, transporting large amounts of thermal power plant circulating water for cooling, raising wharf water levels, etc. During the operation of axial flow pumps and mixed flow pumps, monitoring and maintenance should be strengthened to maintain long-term safe operation, with few or no failures, and failures can be eliminated in a timely manner.
(1) Check whether the pump shaft and drive shaft are bent due to transportation, and straighten them if necessary.
(2) The installation elevation of the pump should meet the requirements of the product manual to meet the requirements of NPSH and startup.
(3) Install a screen in front of the water pool inlet to prevent impurities from entering the pump. The water flow through the screen should not exceed 0.3 m/s.
(4) Before installing the pump, check whether the blade installation angle meets the requirements and whether the blades are loose.
(5) After installation, check whether the nuts of each coupling and each foundation bolt are tightened. When tightening the nuts on the drive shaft and pump shaft, pay attention to the thread direction.
(6) The drive shaft and pump shaft should be installed on the same vertical line, with an allowable error of less than 0.03 mm/m.
(7) The pump outlet pipe should be supported by another bracket, not the pump body.
(8) The gate valve should not be installed on the pump outlet pipe. If so, it should be fully opened before starting.
(9) When using a check valve, the counterweight is well installed to balance the gravity of the gate, making the pump run more economically.
